Mumbai: Dussehra, celebrated as the triumph of good over evil, is considered one of the most auspicious festivals in Hindu tradition. The day is believed to bring opportunities for new beginnings, success and spiritual growth. Astrologer, tarot card reader, crystal healer and numerologist Rinhee Suberwal has shared a few traditional rituals that are believed to invite positivity, remove obstacles and seek divine blessings on the occasion.
Recite Sacred Prayers for Strength and Protection
According to Rinhee Suberwal, reciting the Ram Raksha Stotra and the Hanuman Chalisa on Dussehra is considered highly auspicious. She also recommends chanting the “Sita Ram” mantra, saying these prayers help strengthen faith and invoke the blessings of Lord Ram and Lord Hanuman for courage, protection and prosperity.
Offer Peepal Leaves to Lord Hanuman
Sharing another traditional practice, Rinhee advises devotees to take five, seven or eleven peepal leaves, write or chant “Jai Shri Ram” on each one, and offer them to Lord Hanuman. The ritual is traditionally believed to attract positive energy and blessings.
An Ideal Day for New Beginnings
Dussehra is widely regarded as a favourable occasion to start a new venture, make important life decisions or take the first step towards a fresh chapter. However, Rinhee emphasises that religious and astrological practices should be followed with devotion and understanding rather than out of fear or blind belief.
Simple Home Ritual to Seek Goddess Durga’s Blessings
For those celebrating at home, Rinhee recommends offering prayers to Goddess Durga while chanting the Sita Ram mantra. She also mentions the traditional nazar utarna ritual using yellow mustard seeds, red chillies and salt, which are later burned. According to traditional beliefs, this practice is performed to ward off the evil eye and negative energy.
A Festival of Faith and Positivity
Rinhee Suberwal says Dussehra serves as a reminder to let go of negativity and embrace a positive outlook. Whether through prayers, mantra chanting or traditional rituals, the festival encourages people to move forward with faith, confidence and good intentions.
